From a news website

"VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul II had a breathing tube inserted in his throat Thursday in what the Vatican said was a successful tracheotomy to ease respiratory problems. The 84-year-old pontiff underwent the surgery hours after he was rushed to the hospital for the second time in a month, suffering fever and congestion."

Is it fair, that at the age of 84, he remains as Pope. Should he be allowed to leave the post due to the event of his poor health ?

As I understand it the Pope believes passionately in the sanctity of life and wants to demonstrate that you should never give up. I think that no matter how frail he is he will not go without a fight. ''I will not go quietly into that last good night but rather stand and rage against the failing of the light''
