My husband went to his doctor at the beginning of the year because he was having regular dizzy spells. The doctor did the usual checks for blood pressure/ears etc. but it didn't go away and eventually after several visits the doctor decided that it was a sign of stress and prescribed him amytryptline which is an anti-depressant. Six months later my husband's dizzy spells are better but have not gone away completely and he now has the added problem with the side-effects of the tablets which make him feel very tired and cloggy-headed. I have to add that my husband doesn't feel that stress was at the bottom of it and now he also has the added problem that he won't be able to just stop taking the tablets but wean himself off gradually. So now he has two problems rather than one!

A work colleague of my husband began to suffer with very similar dizzy spells recently but because he has private healthcare through work the doctor sent him for a brain scan, the results of which he'll find out next month.

Has anyone else suffered a similar condition ie. unexplained dizzy spells which are very debilitating and leave him with a headache.

Hi

My wife has been having dizzy spells for the last few months - she's 25. The doc did a blood test for diabetes etc but it checked out ok. She still gets them now but not as much, just goes off balance sometimes.

Hello there , i read about your husbands dizzy spells a few weeks ago . i have been suffering from dizzy spells since late last year . I had repeat visits to a and e as chest pain was also present. They found nothing ,i also started to

numbness in my hands giving me even more fear of heart problems . ( i am only 33 but it can happen ) . i then convinced my self that i had something serious - Lung cancer was at the top of the list for a while. So i had a chest Ex Ray, still nothing .At times life would thankfully take over and i would feel fine and forget all about it and then all the dizzyness, unsteady feelings would come back . The fear would set in and i realized there was a bit of a cycle. My doctor just says it is stress but with no explaination or help ,only a slight repriev from the fear of a something serious. Well i been doing some reasearch and i think i have something called Hyperventilation Syndrome . Have a look on the net , go on to google and read as much about it as you can. Let us know what you think ? If your husband has had stress in his life recently it could well be hyperventilation even though he thinks that stress isn't the problem, i could try an explain more but you may as well just go straight to the experts . i haven't got any further than a self diagnosis but after reading about it i feel quite convinced that is what i have . Doctors don't often Know about this syndrome and unfortanately you might have to go to a private one that does. Dr Myhill 01547 550331 is one

she has a brillant web site that could tell you alot about it. After reading about it if you think its the problem then let us know and i'll share what information i have found out by then . Best Wishes . JUDE .

I get them at work and come dangerously close to passing out. It seems like it happens when I'm concentrating on something extremely hard. Another symptom is that my hearing gets really foggy.

I have also been having continuall dizzy spells. Mine last almost forty eight hours. I start getting them in the morning and they are very mild and I get really nauseaus when in a car. Then as the day persists the nauseau gets worse and the dizzy spells start. I could just be walking from one room to the other and feel like I am fixing to fall over. It is incredibly weird. The next day of it is worse I just want to throw up and try to move very slow because even eye movement throws me off. Moving my head at all makes me dizzy. Has anyone experienced this? I don't believe it is stressed related, I have lived in constant stress for almost 23 years and usually get a migraine or very ill when I am too stressed. I have recentl developed arthritis and fibromialgia due to it.

I have the same symptoms of dizziness when going to bed at night and waking in the morning. It also happens if I turn over in the night. I have almost fallen over when getting up to use the loo and forgetting to hold onto the furniture until it passes. I think its my ears although my hearing sems Ok I do get tinnitus sometimes.

Hi Sandi..I was diagnosed with Labrynthitis 2 years ago with regards to the muscles in my face..which were numb and sagging!!! It was wierd! Anyway, they were right in the fact that it wasn't serious and it would go away in a matter of weeks. It did disappear and all was normal and I've never experienced it since!! Pretty wierd hey?!

I have been dizzy (faaling up & down stairs, dizzy when standing or bending etc etc)and nauseous for a month now and went to the doctor last Friday who sid my balance equilibrium was off, she explained it that you have certain nodes that control your balance and if an extra 'bit' gets in it can unbalance your whole system. She manipulated my neck a bit from left to right and up and down whilst hanging my head over the back of the examination bed and although it was very bizarre, it completely stopped the dizzy spells, by apparantly realigning the nodes!!! strange but true.

Hi I have been getting dizzy spells for the last 10 days or so and they come and go through the day, slight feeling of sickiness too. The doctor reckons its Anxiety, he may have a point not sure. I also sense a tight feling in the ear so that may be linked, anyway its been getting me down though I dont feel faint. Can stress do that?

I also have suffered from dizzy spells. They began at the end of May 2003 after I had a tubal ligation. I thought they had something to do with that, however, I am beginning to think differently now as they persist. I experience dizzy spells at random times through out the day and even glancing side ways will cause them. Driving or being a passanger in a vehicle will make me nauseous also. I read all the previous messages and feel it could be related to my balance equilibrium being out of whack. I would like to thank you people that have posted emails to this site as I am now able to go to my doctor with a few of the ideas I have written down.

I also had tests conducted regarding Diabetes, blood tests, and urinalysis. My doctor said that all tests came back normal and that I the only thing he could tell is that my iron count was down a bit. I have been on anti-depressants previously, so I don't know if that has any thing to do with it or not. I noted a few people said that their doctor's mentioned it was anxiety related or stress related.... I have been under alot more stress before than I am now, so that does not sound too palatable to me, however I guess you never know. Anyways thanks again, I think I will go have my ears checked etc.

I have been having dizzy spells for the last couple of weeks or so and came on here deperately looking for answers. Its good to know it's not uncommon and probably not that serious either. It is most un-nerving though, the last one happened in B&Q and I had visions of falling over in the store. I can relate to the person who gets it when concentrating hard on something because thats when I get it most. I have a very, very stressful job which may be a factor and 3 years ago I suffered from a prolapsed disk in my neck which may have some bearing too. I must say though it has given me a shock and am seriously considering changing my lifestyle (giving up smoking, losing weight, changing diet etc)right time to do it I think now I've hit the big 40. I'll let you know how I get on.

I'm so happy to have you folks. Really!! I just started my dizziness and a bit nausea also about 3 weeks ago. Since I'v been healthy all my life I got so scared, since it lasted a few hours, with getting up and down at intervals. No insurance since husband got ill with stroke. But.....went to ER anyway. Like most of you's everything with the acception of a TIA everything else good. Catscan good to. Heart good. I'm fairly active, ride a bike and walk and have been dieting sensibly. What on earth happened. They gave me 'Plavix and high blood pressure pills. Two days later I went back same thing and they gave me Lorzepam. Said it was Anxiety. I do take care of my husband but did'nt think I was all that stressed. Have any of you found some relief? I really hate taking the meds. I'm 62 1/2 and just waiting for Medicare to kick in. I'm looking to do some Jack Lalanne juicing to see if that will help in any way. Best of luck to you all.
