Hello Everyone. I am soon to be 28 years old and I too am having this dizzyness. I read a girl named April's post and just started to cry and cry....

My symptoms are pretty much the same as everyones. I don't have vertigo at all, but I do have some sort of equilibrium imbalance and when I start to fall I try to grab onto something.

Recently, I had a rush of dizzyness hit me and I had nothing to grab onto. On the way down, things went black and I awoke on the floor lying on my back. I don't think I was unconscious that long.

I've started the round of tests: MRI, EKG, EEG, CT and the usual blood workup. I have everything back (all normal) except the EEG. I take that on April 18th.

I don't have a cure or anything. I was just coming to the internet to find out if there were others like me or if I could categorize my own symptoms. My doctor has recently called and said it is an infection. BUT...I don't believe her. I had the same symptoms for the last 6 months. AND...before that I had these same "fainting spells" back in the summer of 2003. I don't think...I've had an infection for that long.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say that even though nobody has the answers on this forum I AM SO GLAD (so glad) that you have chosen to share your experiences. I am 28 with no major medical history, never smoked, exercise 1 hr/day, eat pretty healthy (no fast food). So this whole experience is pretty scary for me.

I just love that I'm not alone. I'm glad...that I don't have to cry alone. I just don't know what the heck is wrong with me.

Sincerely,
Chanon

If everyone here is sure they dont have anything wrong with their ears or brain, then it could be a disease called candida and can be cured. I have had dizzy spells but i dont any longer as i am treating my candida.

Hi all
Its so good to know that you arent on your own with this depiladating sickness although i wish you all didnt have it of course.

I suffer irregular bouts of dizziness and what seems to start mine off is if i have to put my head in an unusual position. The thing most likely to start it off is if i work on my vehicle and have to lie on my back looking up. This started a bad bout about (excuse the pun) 3 weeks ago. When guess what i bent over to look under my van. Luckily i had some out of date medication so took that.

Other occasions were like i had been spun round and round on a merry go round and happened when i woke up about 1.30am. Of course all sorts of things go through your mind.

If you have a doctor that understands the way you feel you are lucky. Mine is useless.

Anway its all but gone again now. Luckily it only happens about once every 18 mnths so i am not as bad as some.

Will say a prayer for you all so take care and hang in there.

Love to all

I am so relieved that these dizzy spells seem not to be as serious as I imagined, although I am going to see my doctor. 4 days ago I sat up and got a real bad dizzy spell with nausea. Every night since then every time I roll over I get dizzy with nausea. Very odd. Scared me. Now with reading all your postings, I feel relief that I'm not having a heart attack.

Theres lots of different cause of dizzyness and vertigo, as it's only a symptom - 95% of these are fairly benign (but seriously horrible).

If it effects you when rolling over bed, but inbetween you are not overly bothered by symptoms then I suggest you look up BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO, as this is one of the most common forms of dizziness/vertigo, and either resolves on it's own over a few weeks, or can easily be treated with habituation exercises or the epley manuver..

Vertigo following a cold/flu is often caused by inner ear inflamation, labyrinthitis or vestibular neuronitis. The infection actually only usually lasts a few days, but leaves behind some minor scarring or damage, so you continue to have symptoms. Over time your brain learns to adapt to faulty signals, and after about 6-8 weeks the majority of people fully recover, for some it can take a lot longer, and for a minority they will need to perform specialist exercises to help retrain the brain and balance system. However, your brain can only learn/adapt if you give it the correct stimulous (ie movement and activity), if you sit at home and do nothing it will find it hard to adapt. This adaption process is called central compensation, it's important to realise that even after you've compensated, the initial injury is still present (though you will feel fine), and it's fairly common to have your old symptoms return (decompensation), especially during periods of phycisal or emotional stress (viral illness, tiredness etc etc) - this is not a sign the original problem has return, just that your brain has "slipped back" to it's old settings, however, compensating for a second time around should be a quicker and easier process (because your brain has already learn't to adapt once) and over time these episodes of decompensation will normally get less severe and spread further apart until they disappear completely..

There are obviously other causes of vertigo (specifically Menieres (which has other fairly characteristic symptoms) or Migraine Associated Vertigo), but those listed above are by far the most common.

About 2 years ago i woke up in a sweat with some crazy thoughts of a life threatning illness (or 2). Never did figure out why this hit me and its very embarising.. on the 1 hand im thinking maybe their is somthing seriusly wrong with me and on the other maybe im becoming a hypocondriact type thingy guy.. as time has passed ive became very tense and have pains over my right shoulder and right up through the right side of my neck, the right side of my stomaech and chest is also very tense. Somtimes i wonder if its perhaps lung cancer but then other times i think im just being a dick and need to let it go since all blood tests and so have came back fine in the past. Ive tried to put it down to depresion or anxiety and move on but its just not working.. The dizy spells started about 3 month ago.. the first set only lasted 2 days or so and it started by me waking up in the middle of the night with my eyes roling uncontrolably... was prity freaky and ofc the first thing to my mind was could it be a brain tumor or somthing. It didnt pass during the day although it was nowhere near as worse standing than during the night whislt lying down or sleeping. I went to the doctor and she said that my neck problems are more likely to be the source of the dizy spells. Last night i woke up to the same damn dizy s--t and ive had enuf, this whole thing with the derpresion dizy spels stress or what ever the fk is pissing me right off.. the spells didnt pass as easy today and i was physicaly sick this time after about 3 hours of geting out of bed. If i move my head, get up or do any movment to fast the dizyness comes back.

for well over a year now i feel like the second day of a hang over, just dont feel my former self. My vision seems difrent and i just cant be botherd to do anything at all

I truly sympathize with all of you. I am a fifty-one year old male and have never had any history of dizziness. I stay active and eat healthy. I think I have a possible solution for some of you. I hope this helps.
I had dizzy spells for 16 months. Each, two to three weeks apart. They usually lasted from two to nine hours. The first one while I was sitting came on instantly. Prior to this I had no nausea or pain. I panicked. I felt hot and disoriented. Focusing on single objects was difficult. I thought I would pass out but never did. I thought I was dying.
These spells occurred at home and in public without warning. For more than a year I was afraid to go out with family or friends for fear of having a spell in front of them. Going to restaurants, the movies or any place outside the city alone was out of the question.
I finally ended up in the emergency room Christmas night. It was terrible. I was afraid I would pass out and never wake up. The hospital staff did all the usual tests, (blood work, cat-scan, heart rate and blood pressure.) Everything came back “text book normal.” The doctor referred me to an E.N.T. specialist but I couldn’t afford to go right away.
Three weeks later I had a mild tooth ache and saw an affordable dentist. The x-ray showed an infected root canal that I had eight years ago. The tooth itself was not the source of the pain because there was no nerve left after the root canal procedure. This tooth was on my lower right. Another x-ray showed infection from a tooth on my upper left that didn’t hurt at all. This tooth was filled ten years ago. There was some swelling but only after eating and it would diminish after a day or two. The new dentist drained the infections, re-did the root canal, refilled the other tooth and gave me antibiotics. I haven’t had a dizzy spell in three months. Apparently, the infection had spread to my ears and sinuses.
If it’s at all possible, pain or no pain, I sincerely urge you to get a series of dental x-rays and have the dentist look carefully for infection!…Not just “black holes” to fill. Again, I hope this helps.
Good luck to all of you,
Mark in Colorado.
I have been suffereing from dizzy spells for about 8 months now and they are becoming very frequent. They started at work and although I have them all day they are more frequent at work.
I've had blood tests and they didn't show any abnormalities. I have an ENT appointment coming up to see if it could be labrynthitis or related to the inner ear.
Please can someone contact me on here or by email if they think they can help me. I'm finding it very hard to cope with persistent dizziness on a daily basis.
Also, did anyone else find that the illness came with depression, or became depressed as a result?
Thanks,
Jolene.
I had been getting dizzy spells from the time I was 15 until 28. I am now 30. I have had cat scans, seizure tests, and who knows what else done to me and still no answer to why I was having dizzy spells. The doctor prescribed me antivert (meclizine) which helped alot but it made me very sleepy. Well one day while talking with a co-worker I told her about my dizzy spells and she informed me that her son was going through the same thing and after numerous tests and visits to the doctors one doctor finally tested his blood and found out that his thyroid levels were low. He prescribed him thyroid medicine and he's been fine since. Well I then made an appointment with my doctor to see if I could get my thyroid levels checked and sure enough, my levels were low as well and she diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. I was taking levothyroxin for 2 years having no dizzy spells and started slacking on taking my medicine. You have to take 1 tablet everyday and I would only take it sometimes. My doctor suggested that since I was only taking my med sometimes I should stay off of it for 1 month and she'll retest my thyroid levels to see if I still needed the medicine. Well i stopped taking the med and I felt fine the whole month. Got the level results back and i had normal thyroid levels so she took me off the med. Now its been 3 months since I haven't taken my med and now my dizzy spells have came back strong. I'm going to go get my levels retested to see if my hypothyroidism is back.

Help, I don't know what to do. My husband has been suffering "dizzy" spells. Read the forum and the same things apply. CT scans, MRI scans, heart, blood monitors, blood tests. Problem is the spells kid you. They might not come for a couple of hours, maybe last 5 minutes, or could last 5 hours. His temperature shoots up, tries to focus on one spot, and then sickness, more often that not vomiting. Not stress related. We had no attacks for about 4 months then all of a sudden they have come back with a vengence. You try to fathom out what could he be doing that could trigger off an attack but there is no logical reason. About 2 weeks ago when playing golf (when our life was "normal") he was bitten by midges and came out in about five hives. Could this be the trigger that started that attacks again. We are now sitting in work waiting for his latest attack to go off to enable us to get in the car and drive home. It is really getting him down and I must say although maybe you might think it is selfish, it is getting me down as there does not seem to be an end to it. It is different if the doctor says it is x y z and here is a tablet or course of action to take, but there seems to be no advice once the initial scans have been done, just get on with it. Sorry for sounding off but just suppose I wanted to let others know there are lots of people in the same boat.

To those of you who are feeling dizzy. I have been dizzy for years and treated for anxiety and agoraphobia. Two years ago I went to a eye doctor who deals with this type of thing and was fitted with glasses with prisims. I have a condition called hyperphoria. This is where one eye is higher than the other. You can't really tell this by looking at me. It takes some time to get the prisims right. For me it was a year of putting in prisims and waiting to see how that worked and then getting more until the dizzyness went away. If I move my head fast or have a lot visiual stimulius it will come on but with the glasses i am 95 percent well. Hope this helps someone. Yolanda

Hi all, I have simular sort of symptoms. Basically I start feeling dizzy, nauseous and feel like I'm about to pass out. Then I go and buy something sweet like a mars bar and I quickly snap out of it.

I get sick of the doctor saying it is just stress, I feel it is a lot more than that. I also get tightness in the chest.

The last time I asked my doctor he said "You should get used to certain feelings in your body, or I will be in danger of becoming a hypoconriac".
