Hello everyone,
I'm Shell, I'm 21,a mother to be, I have size 36DDD breasts, I'm only 5 feet tall... and I'm from America. I matured at the age of 9. Big breasts run in my family... and it really sucks. I used to play sports and run track and I was a very active, but I was doomed to have these massive breasts. I really, really, really hate it. I am the biggest bust in my family of mostly women...

Now I am here for some ideas and help.
At the age of 18 I tried to get a breast reduction, and I was denied. I was denied several times. My insurance wouldn't do anything. They told me I needed to be "of right mind" and they said since I am 18 I can't make that decision, they tried to say I was still young. So they sent me to a pyschologist, where I had to be analyzed. She told me I was completely in sound mind to make this choice and wasn't sure what my insurance issue was. I went and tried again, my insurance said "What if you want to have a children?" I do. But I did my research there are ways to get a reduction that won't hurt my milk ducts and I can breast feed. So they denied me again. I tried again, and they told me I needed to try physical therapy to make the muscles that hold and carry my breasts stronger... I did that for 6 months it was like going to the Gym and very uncomfortable... I tried again and was denied. They sent me to a Medical hospital where the surgery would of been done if I was accepted...where I met with a doctor. She told me the good the bad and the in betweens of breast reduction surgery. She had me weighed and I was overweight, (well hello count my breast weight please...) and she took topless photos of me which were sent to my insurance company....and after ALL THAT... I was denied again. I was so upset I didn't want to go on anymore the constant denials and the pain of having these was making me want to lock myself away in my house and never come out.
I don't need to tell anyone how horrible high school was... teenagers are not very nice....
I'm married, and I am 8 months pregnant and my breasts are MASSIVE. I can barely move, or walk normally... and this is sad to say but I fall over. My Midwife has made notes about my severe back aches, and how often I complain to her... my doctor has done the same since I was 18... My insurance still wants to throw me around like I am a useless piece of human... I am fed up and hurt..
If anyone has any information on what I can do... I am open to suggestions... I know after I have this baby I want to try again for the surgery... it would make my life so much easier.
Thank you for listening. |

First thing you need to do is visit your doctor, and let them know you have been thinking about a reduction. They will tell you "Oh but there are many ways to relieve the pain" - Don't give in. If you really want a breast reduction tell them flat out that this is what you want. Your doctor should document that you are having a lot o back pain and have thought about a reduction.
When I went to my doctor and told them I was ready for a reduction, they called the people in a hospital a state away from mine and set up an appointment with a surgeon. It all falls down on if your Health Care Provider will help pay for the reduction. Mine won't. I was 18 when I tried to get a reduction... They said no I was too young. I tried for years. I have been denied. Hopefully YOUR health care provider will help you. The surgery cost is about $8,000.00 (or so it was last I tried to get it done) Just stay strong and tell your doctor.
Best of luck to you, perhaps you can get the reduction and there will be one less big breasted woman in the world. |

Hi All
just a quick note to let you know that there is hope and that the NHS does work!
After what I think is a reasonable process both in terms of timescales and criteria my local PCT has approved my breast reduction!
The next step is to decide which hospital to use and then once the op is 'commisioned' by my GP they have 10 weeks to do it. I should have the boobs I want (and need) by the end of the summer.
If anyone has any advice on chosing the best hospital or preparing for the op I would love to hear it! |

| Big breasts can be very annoying and heavy to carry, they stop us from enjoying beautiful lingeries, thanks god [breast reduction is now available, you just need to look for a good surgeon and will never regret it. |

Hello I'm newly registered to this site but have been reading the postings for some weeks.
Congratulations on achieving the date for your surgery and good luck.............
I plucked up the courage a month ago to see my GP about a breast reduction and was totally suprised at her understanding. She will support my case for funding to the PCT providing I can show her that I can loose some weight first, which I'm more thah happy to do but unfortunately the boobs never seem to decrease that much. She will review my weight in 3months time.
Did you have to wait long and will your surgery be on the NHS
Hope you don't mind my enquiry
Regards Mandy |

this is my first post on these forums but after reading about so many people with the same problem as me i had to post a reply
i am 28 and am a size 14 bottom ... and am 5"2'
my breasts are a size 38DD and i know that wont seem a lot ( reading your posts made me realize that it could be worse) but they are very very saggy and point to the floor .. so its not the size so much that bothers me ( but god would i love to be smaller) but the overall shape ... i went to see my GP and he basically laughed at me and told me to lose weight, he also gave me a form to fill in cos he thinks i may be depressed
i just dont know where to go from here |

| Hi, Im 18 years old and I am considering breast reduction, I have had large breasts since I was about 13 years old, I am dealing with 38DDD and I am 5'3 and I weigh 162, I have I had severe back problems and I also deal with skin irritation under my breasts, i get indentions underneath my breasts for my bra also, my breasts have stopped me from doing any type of phsyical activites. Recently I have noticed that my right breast seems bigger than my left. Would I be a good candiate to recieve this such surgery? I have also noticed that I have stretch marks on both of my breasts. |

| Just thought I'd pop on to update a bit and let you all know that I have been give a date - all being well I will have 'The Op' on October 21st. I am a mixture of terrified and ecstatic! I have to give a paper at a conference a mere two weeks after my surgery, which may be a challenge, but I'm hoping as it only involves sitting down for most of the day that I'll feel up to doing it... But the knowledge that the constant back-ache may be drawing to an end (though I know I'm going to have to really work on my posture to fix it once the surgery is done) is just so reassuring. Would love to hear the recovery storied of those who have had it done so far. How were you at 2 weeks - in agony, just tired, still in hospital?? |

Hi all....
I am 24 years old, 13st 5lbs, 5'2, a size 16 with 36G breasts. I've felt very unhappy with the size of my breasts for at least a year now. They seem to have increased rapidly in size over the past few months. I don't feel feminine anymore, I get bad neck and back twinges, and the sciatica down my left side is also making more frequent appearences. I have been sweating a LOT more and can't walk at the fast pace I once could.
I do know that i'm overweight, and that my BMI is in the 30s. I am taking measures to do something about this and the weight is slowly coming off. However, it is frustrating to know that my breasts will be contributing to a lot of this weight anyway, and although I am eating well (I have never ate particularly badly) it is my breasts which have stopped me exercising so much and therefore the weight has slowly come back on. Even the best sports bras don't really hold me down properly and i'm nearly knocking myself out when I try to run or do exercise.
They are a big topic of conversation for people I know. At work, they are often joked about. And even my friends and family seem fascinated by them! No one has ever said anything malicious about them (at least not to my face) but I HATE having attention drawn to them - whether it is good or bad. I do laugh along, especially at work as I don't really want to make a big issue out of it. It is upsetting though.
A couple of people have both seperately mentioned the idea of a breast reduction on the NHS. My physical and mental health both have deteriorated over the past few months and, after doing quite a bit of reading, it does seem like a lot of my symptoms can be attributed to my breasts....
I am going to Weight Watchers and so can prove to my doctor that I am making a conscious effort to lose weight. However, I also got the implant back in March and was wondering if this maybe contributing to the increase in breast size. I am considering getting it taken out anyway, just going back onto the pill and seeing if that makes any difference.
I have known my GP since I was a baby and have seen him for allsorts over the years so I know he will be sympathetic towards my problem. My only concern is whether I actually meet the PCT requirements to go ahead with a reduction anyway. And whether I actually WANT a reduction I know that a lot of people on here have already had them. Can you share your stories? i've read a lot already and all the different accounts have been helpful. Is there anyone else who's had one and had a good experience? Or a bad one for that matter? |

Heya
I have just come back from the doctors this morning and have the full criteria
Apparently being 5'2'' and 11st 6lbs i am bordering obese as my bmi is 30!!! I find it ludicrous that i am a size 12 and classified as obese - anyway the doctors have to refer each case to the PCT for funding and unless the BMI is under 30 the PCT wont consider fundind.
I know exactly where u are coming from with the upset from peoples comments which is partly why i replied
Anyway let me know how you get on - and i'll keep u updated on my story - my wonderful doctor has said shed refer my case with my bmi stated at 29 and has set me a challenge of losing 5lbs in next couple of weeks -
I like a challenge so fingers crossed

| I stumbled onto this site and I can't beleive how many people are in a similar position to me. I've been fighting my PCT to have the operation for over a year now - they have turned my application down twice already but I'm still fighting it. Luckily for me I have a very supportive GP who is willing to do whatever it takes to get this approved for me. And so letter number 3 has now been sent - I'm not holding my breath! Why is it so different depending where you live - it's so unfair! And so depressing - I am sure the desicions are not made on clinical basis - just funding. Probably a man who wouldn't have a clue what it's like to live like this. I'm 36 years old a size 10-12 on the bottom and 16-18 on the top. I've always been like this - execpt when I had my kids when I went up to a whopping 38KK! I'm getting the stage where I'm ready to give up but I can't live the rest of life with these and I can't afford to get it done privately. Has anyone else managed to get the op on the NHS in Berkshire? Any advice gratefully received |
