I am 18 and since i stopped professionally dancing 3 years ago due to injury, my breasts went from an AA to a DD to an E etc, i am between a 30dd and e and am very petite being only 5'4 with a 25 inch waist
i have been concidering redustion for the past couple of years as it has given me severe depression and eating disorders, i am on anti dpressants and my doctors are obviously aware of this, but i have never spoken about this aspect before with them
I have booked a doctors appointment to discuss this with them. But i do not know how to bring it up with them
I dont think i look that out of proportion and they are not horribley big. it would just extremley benefit my mental a physical well being i believe,do you think i fit the criteria |

hi all, just found this site as i was looking for info on getting a breast reduction, i am 21 years old and have had big boobs since school, they are currently 36FF and have been for the last 3years. my measurements are 42, 30, 38. i have serious indentations on my shoulders, constant neck and back pain, and even had a lump come up on my lower back caused by my boobs i have been on a diet for 1 month exactly (yesterday) and have lost a stone but my boobs havent changed size. i have been worrried that if i visit my gp she wont take me seriously, and at an appointment with a nurse today she said i may be one of those people who is not carrying any fat in my breast, so they might not change even though i am dieting, and when i asked about reductions on the nhs she said she didnt think they were available anymore. i have booked an appointment with my doctor anyway just to be sure, and this is on this coming thursday. i live in the south east, kent, and was just wondering if anyone on here knew if breast reductions were still available in my area, no matter what the wait, as i dont have the money for the op otherwise, but am so fed up of feeling like this. with my measurements etc do i even qualify? im willing to diet for as long as it takes and lose as much as they think is neccesary. if anyone has any info please get bk 2 me on here, thank you so much, steph |

hi there
Don't despair. I have had 2 so it can be done. The thing to do is to tell your GP how much your size is affecting your health. Back problems upper especially are a major reason for having this op stress your health issues.
I cant remember if you said you were in the normal BMI range but if you are not you might have to slim down to 25 I did the first time. The second op was because the surgeon tried a different method of doing the op and I was not happy with the result.
I am 3 weeks post op now and the result is stunning even though I say so myself. Get an appointment with your GP you have nothing to lose (except big boobs of course) and so much to gain.
Good luck and if you want to ask me anything at all please do so. I have been poked and prodded so many times I am not embarassed at anything now! |

Just an update.............
Saw the consultant (plastic surgeon) for the second time today, the first time was in Jan 09 when he said he would be happy to carry out the surgery providng the PCT would grant the funding. A month later the PCT notified me the funding was available and today I was told my "op" wil be done in up to 18 weeks more than likely sooner. I can't believe they're actually going at last.I'm currently a 38 j/k cup and would like to be a c cup. I was asked today what size I'd prefer and the consultant didn't find my reply unacceptable so lets go for it!!!!I had all the risks explained to me again and I'm more than happy to carry on, no pain no gain.
For all those ladies out there don't be put off if at first you don't succeed, my GP and consultant have been understanding and supportive pardon the pun!!
I haven't yet stopped smiling since I lef the hospital today, I can't wait.............for smaller boobs |

Mandy there is not even much pain. I am 6 weeks post op, and am 36C from 36J and feel absolutely fantastic. There was one drawback, once my huge bosom had gone I could see my fat tum so now at slimming Club!
Good luck and if you want to ask anything about my op feel free. |

Hi Lynne
Thankyou so much for those words of encouragement, I figuired that I've had a hysterectomy and managed the discomfort from that.
The surgeon said I'd be in hospital 2 days, arriving on the day of the op and staying over night all things going ok, should be allowed home that day or the next. I will have a drain in each side, not had one of them before so in for a penny in for a pound!! Like you the only down side will be that my chubby tum will still be there but I can live with that,Having lost 2 stone to get referred it is smaller than it was!
I really can't begin to imagine what smaller boobs is going to be like. I'm not sure who was more suprised last week at the hospital, me for hearing the op was going to be this side of Xmas or the surgeon trying to get to grips with the smile on my face just knowing my dream is about to come reality.
Are the dressings which are in place after the op very padded and bulky?
What about bathing/showering?
When can you drive?
Which hospital did you have your surgery at, I'm going in to Notts City Hospital
Lastly hope you don't mind me asking you all this and I hope you're continuing to improve daily, keep me posted Regards Mandy |

At least that's what it was for me. The dressings are a bit bulky to start with but they are replaced very soon with smalller dressings and you can wear a sports bra very comfortably. I didn't drive for 6 weeks afterwards that was for insurance reasons only I could have done.
i am in South Wales now although originally from Yorkshire so my op was done in Morriston . drains a bit uncomfortable but soon gone.
I know the feeling of excitment when you are told it will actually be done. I always said that this would be the first thing I'd do if I won the lottery. I didn't and the good old NHS did it for me but i feel as if I have won the lottery anyway.
Please keep in touch if you like, e mail is angelryan@hotmail.con |

Hello again......
I had my op on Tuesday 14th July 09, the last I remember was going to sleep at 13.00hrs with a bra size of 38 j/jj cup (depending on where I bought my bra from) and waking up in recovery at about 17.45hrs with a lovely 38c/d cup. I'm so happy. I had abit of bleeding over night and the anaesthetic as usual for me made me nauseous for a few hours but I didnt have any drains in place. I was able to come home the next afternoon (Wed 15th July 09 ) and apart from feeling bruised which is a manageable discomfort rather than painful, I'm feeling great! My dressings where changed the next morning and I am so happy with the result, I had just over1.5 kg of breast tissue removed and it was my choice to go as small as my lovely surgeon could allow. My only fear before the op was waking up with a size that I personally felt unhappy with (ie still being too large) But I needn't have worried, I'm wearing my new sports bra as required and it's a 38 d and fits comfortably with the padded dressings still in situ! A district nurse visit ( well colleague as I am a hcsw on community ) is planned for Friday and I have a return visit to the hospital for a dressing change next Tuesday.................................thats the latest so far I feel so happy with the result and would encourage any lady to see her Gp if she is seriously considering a breast reduction.........Mandy |

Hello
I have recently been to my doctor and have asked about having a breast reduction and she has told me that I dont stand a chance of getting one as I am not 'to the point of suicide', as she put it!
I have also just found out that one of my old school friends has just had her breast enlarged on the NHS! I was shocked at hearing this as I might not be able to have a reduction when my breast are naturally big.
I really dont know what to do...my doctor made it very clear that there is a high chance that I would not be able to get a reduction. My breast are now causing me great pain in my neck and back, I'm only 18 I shouldn't have back problems. It is even causing trouble in my relationship with my boyfriend!
Please can someone help me, I am getting desperate!! |

| I am so shocked at how different the treatment in the NHS is in different parts of the country!! I went to my G.P 3/6/09 asking for a reduction, she listen to my reasons, 32h, sorness in upperback, never like my breast since i was 16 as too big. she took my weight BMI was 25, told me she would referer me but warned i may have to fight my case and even go to P.C.T to ask for funding. received letter from hospital 2 weeks later with appointment to see specialist today in hospital. i went there all fired up and ready for lots of questions etc. he only asked me a few, mainly medical history ones, examined me, told me i would be accepted, explained surgery and pros and cons. has now put me on list which is at the moment 18 weeks at the most, which starts from your clinic appointment, I am so pleased and didnt have to fight my case. why can't all pct be the same as so unfair to others depending on where they live! |

Hi there, where do you live?[/quote] I live by a place called Southport but when my G.P tried to do Choose and Book for the clinic referral my local Hospital wasn't coming up even though i know they do breast surgery there. nearest one was Whiston Hospital which is in the merseyside area, not that far from Manchester. its about 3/4 hour car journey from my house to hospital. doesnt bother me traveling as that hospital is well know for its excellance in plastic surgery, also the consultant doing my op also works privately as well as doing N.H.S work. |

I'm 20 and a 32J size 16/18 on top and 12/14 on bottom
I have recently been to the doctors about getting a breast reduction as my boobs are causing me alot of back ache and affects my self confidence.
I have been refered to a plastic surgoen and i am on the waiting list but i just not sure if its the right thing. i just worry about how bad the scars will be and how painful it will be.
I was wondering long it took you to fully recover ? how long were you off work ?
Are you scars really bad ?
Im also worryed about loosing the feeling in my nipple and the complecations that go with breast reduction. Would my boobs get bigger if i had children
i do want to have it done but i just have some questions which keep going through my head. |

Hello All,
Not sure how to make a general post so here goes........
It's been almost 7 weeks since my breast reduction, all I can say is I wish I'd had it done sooner, the size difference is fantastic and it's made me feel so much happier. I must add I've had a few problems along the way having to go back into hospital after almost 2 weeks as I had an infection for which I needed IV antibiotics for a week, an area on my left breast had to be opened and drained and I'm still having to have the area redressed every other day.I'm now on my 4th lot of oral antibiotics as there is still an infection lingering. But don't let any of this put you off, the discomfort after the surgery is minimal and no surgery is without possible problems ie infection risks etc.Despite the infection bothof my nipples are intact, I would go through it all again to get smaller boobs. My consultant at Notts City is great and the nursing staff so helpful and caring........................if anyone wants to ask any me any questions please feel free to contact me |

hey
I went to see my doctor today about a reduction, I am a 36J and only 5ft i look stupid. My back and neck hurt, my spine is curving at the top of my back and its killing me!
I know there is a criteria in which you must fit into but when a 10 year old is filling a c cup and getting bigger, that has to start alarm bells ringing. These are going no where no matter how much weight I lose.
Maybe the doctor will listen to me but I am unsure as everyone seems to have mixed stories.
Best of luck to everyone who has their reductions scheduled!

Hi Steph
From originally seeing my GP in June 08 and having to get my BMi down from 30 to 27( I lost just over a stone)She then referred me in Sept 08, my first appt with the surgeon came through in Jan 09 and he agreed to do the op on the NHS and he applied to the PCT for funding, which took a month to sort out.I then saw him again in June 09 when he explained the risks and told me where it would be done and that I would be put on an 18 week waiting list.I was asked to attend Notts city hosp for a pre op assessment on the10th July 09 and had the op on the 14th July.I went down to theatre with J cup size boobs at 12.45 and came round in recovery at 17.45 with d cup size boobs. They're great. I initially only stayed in for 24 hrs but as you've read I've had a few problems with infections since but don't regret it at all, I can now buy bras from Asda and I feel so much better about myself.Hope this helps and please ask more questions if you want to .I'm away for a week so will be unable to reply, hope this helps
Kind regards Mandy |
