Hi all,

I am currently a university student and, being large breasted myself, have decided to base my dissertation on gender embodiment in society and looking at why people, both men and women, undergo breast reduction surgery or why they cconsider it. As you might expect it is difficult to fin people to talk to on this personal subject so if any of you, men aswell, would feel comfortable answerin some questions for me or participating in an interview it would be greatly appreciated. If you could private message me as soon as possible.

Many thanks and good luck to you all,

Orla

Hi I am new to all this!! Aged 44 and now have finally had enuff of my 36ff/g boobs!
I have to wear a size 16/18 on top but size 12 on bottom. I suffer from stiff neck, headaches, hump on back and large crevices on my shoulders.
Can't wear low cut, high necks make them look bigger, minimisers force them under my arms, and certainly can't wear off the shoulder.
I live in Norfolk and have never mentioned this to my doctor so feel quite nervous about it.
Any advice?
Thanks

Hello All,
Not sure how to make a general post so here goes........

It's been almost 7 weeks since my breast reduction, all I can say is I wish I'd had it done sooner, the size difference is fantastic and it's made me feel so much happier. I must add I've had a few problems along the way having to go back into hospital after almost 2 weeks as I had an infection for which I needed IV antibiotics for a week, an area on my left breast had to be opened and drained and I'm still having to have the area redressed every other day.I'm now on my 4th lot of oral antibiotics as there is still an infection lingering. But don't let any of this put you off, the discomfort after the surgery is minimal and no surgery is without possible problems ie infection risks etc.Despite the infection bothof my nipples are intact, I would go through it all again to get smaller boobs. My consultant at Notts City is great and the nursing staff so helpful and caring........................if anyone wants to ask any me any questions please feel free to contact me Very Happy Very Happy
Hi there, did you get the op done on the nhs?.If so how long did it take from start to finish? oh yeah what size was you and what size have you gone to. Many thanks steph
Hi Steph

From originally seeing my GP in June 08 and having to get my BMi down from 30 to 27( I lost just over a stone)She then referred me in Sept 08, my first appt with the surgeon came through in Jan 09 and he agreed to do the op on the NHS and he applied to the PCT for funding, which took a month to sort out.I then saw him again in June 09 when he explained the risks and told me where it would be done and that I would be put on an 18 week waiting list.I was asked to attend Notts city hosp for a pre op assessment on the10th July 09 and had the op on the 14th July.I went down to theatre with J cup size boobs at 12.45 and came round in recovery at 17.45 with d cup size boobs. They're great. I initially only stayed in for 24 hrs but as you've read I've had a few problems with infections since but don't regret it at all, I can now buy bras from Asda and I feel so much better about myself.Hope this helps and please ask more questions if you want to .I'm away for a week so will be unable to reply, hope this helps

Kind regards Mandy
Hi Steph
My first consultation involved the Plastic Surgeon( Jan 09) asking about the problems I had been experiencing and why I wanted the surgery. He did examine my boobs and asked my bra size, he also took a couple of measurements too. My hubby was with me so he asked his feelings about the surgery not that that had any bearing on the consultants final decision, he said he was just interested to know. He told me there and then that he was happy to do the op but the PCT would have to agree to fund the cost as I was having it done on the NHS.He applied on my behalf and I was notified a month later that the PCT had agreed to the funding.I live in Lincolnshire so not sure how it will go for you but good luck and let me know how it goes. Very Happy

Hi All

Just thought I would post a little something on here for all of you that may be considering a reduction.

My new smaller boobs are 1 year old today! I cannot believe where the time has gone, and I am still amazed by them! Every time I dress/undress I do it in the mirror just to admire them.

Although my op didn't quite go to plan, I would go through it all again today if I had to. I got an infection in both of my breasts and they had to be opened up to let them drain, I was going back to the hospital every couple of days to have them redressed for almost 2 months, and they finally healed up on their own 3 months after the operation, but please, please do not be put off by this, the result far far outways this. I couldn't get mine done on the NHS so I went private and in hindsight I'm glad I did because of the trips back and forth they worked round me, even if I wanted to go back in the evening after work and when I had someone to look after the children.

Headaches and backaches are a thing of the past!

I keep saying I wish I had it done earlier, but I'm just glad that I had it done!!

Happy Birthday my georgeous fabulous boobs!!!

Hi there,

Happy birthday to your boobs!!!!

I've just returned to work after 3 months following my surgery in July.. I had infections requiring the same treatment as yourself, and needing daily dressings. People ask if I have any regrets and of course I do..................it's not having the op sooner than I did! How I wish I'd had it done years ago as the difference it's made to my life is fantastic.

Hope your celebrating in style Very Happy

Regards Mandy

Hi there,

I dont know if anyone has anyadvice for me....I recently went to visit my new GP to ask for a breast reduction. Im a size 14 with 34hh breasts and ive had enough!! Im 24 and over the past few years the issues i have had with my boobs just keep getting worse. I suffer from a lot of pain in my back and shoulders, even my tummy where theyre soooo heavy! Not only that theres also the issue of finding decent clothing and bras that are comfortable but dont make you feel like boobs on stilts! I even had a customer jump over the bar (in a pub where i was working) to grab them! So anyway, i went to the GP and she told me that the Devon PCT didnt pay for 'those sors of operations anymore as theyve been deemed unnecessary'. She was very unhelpful, very rude and told me she would write to the PCT for me but not to expect a response to the letter as the main member of staff had recently moved away and she didnt know who to address the letter to!! Im really upset and frustrated by this, i made my mind up that i wanted it done before i even went to the GP and feel like this may never be a reality now. After reading some previous posts it looks like its a postcode lottery?!?
Sorry to moan but its really getting me down, any advice you could give would be very appreciated xXx

The only soultion to a BR on the nhs it seems is to move to Scotland!

I suffer from arthritis, and have 30H breasts and size 12 clothes. after 4 years of just about every oain releiving method available, i spoke to my physio about a reduction, and it was almost as if she expected it! she was very supportive and suggested i ask for a referral from my gp - who was also failry ok about it - but the main thing was she reffered me! 8 months later, i had my first consulltation today with a brilliant plastic surgeon.

I am only 18, but once i told him my story - that i am in agony most of the time with a combination of arthritic pain nd pain from my brests which are majorly out of proportion with my back size, he didnt put up one single objection.

but what he did say is that the nhs have stopped brest reductions now in england and they are on a very limited basis in scotland. after reading stories on here im so lucky - in a strange way that i have arthritis, becaue without that added medical complication i probably would have been turned away!

my concern was that i didnt want to end up with tiny boobs, but he said it wouldnt be possible to make me any smaller than a DD! great news, especially for my fiance Wink

for those of us who are lucky enough to have it paid then great, but unfortunately it looks like the majority of wmen will have to start saving. i think its wrong that it is considered unimportant - it has made my life a misery!

today has bee the happiest day of my life so far! literally a weight off my shoulders. my heart goes out to those who cannit have this wonderful operation xx
