Hi, these headaches sound very similar to the ones i've been having for the last few months.
They are very painful and come and go within a few seconds. no one seems to know what these headaches are, what causes them or how to cure them...but keep me posted

Hi Darryl
What was the result of your check up?
I logged on this evening because I have been suffering fron sharp head pains for about three weeks. However, these are to the right side of my head, fro the temple backwards. They come and then go in a few seconds but they are sharp which is causing me to worry. I have ask to see my GP next Monday. I would be keen to learn about any one who has a clue what this might be.

I have been to my doctor before complaining of these scary sharp head pains. She assured me there was nothing wrong, that my pains were just muscle spassums.I sure hope she is right. I want to see what darryl's neurologist says.
I'll check back.

hi everyone first time i have been on web address today. i have been getting pains in my head since feb o4 they started like a stabbing pain then a dull one. these past 2 weeks i have had the dull ache on left top part of my head, i went to see neurologist and he has advised me to keep a diary for 5 months so he can check exactly when the headaches come, how long they last for and then possibly give me a diagnosis. saying thet tho i have been in agony for 2 weeks it is affecting my day to day life. the neurologist didnt seem to think the headaches were anything serious but you cant help worry! i am going to ask for a brain scan to put my mind at rest. i know he will know best but its not him getting the headaches and worrying. i will let you all know the outcome of the brain scan dont know how long it will take to get one on nhs mind! anyway take care....

I get them too, have been on and of for quite a while, used to get them in the back of my head like someone was sticking a pin in it. More often now it's behind my left temple and up a bit, doesn't last long but might get three or four in an hour and then nothing for a day or so....

Its very reassuring to read all your notes. Although I am pretty confused now about all the different web sites that I should be visiting!! I am a very healthy 37 year old mum of three small children. We eat a very low sodium diet and drink litres of water and also eat stacks of fresh fruit, veg, fish and some meat. I drink occasionally but not to excess nor everyday. However about a year ago I hit my head on one of our granite work tops very very hard and nearly knocked myself out! I am concerned that maybe my recent dizzy spells are down to this bang on the head! I have just had blood tests done for excessive tiredness during the day however, all the tests have come back showing that I am in excellent health! Completely mystified! Even tried Lustral for the past 6 weeks to see if that helps my tiredness but to no avail. What now? Frightened to go back to the GP in case he or a CAT scan reveal anything odd!

( as an aside - My brother in law had a head knock when climbing as a teenager and in his twenties suffered repeated dizzy and black out spells. A cat scan showed a huge tumour where he had hit his head many years beforehand. He is now in a pretty poor way following his surgery. Think this is why I am having a panic!)

Any advice? Pleeeeaaasssee...!

Ive been getting these stabbing head pains on right side towards back, sometimes the pain shoots into right eye. Went and had brain scan, came back ok, except I have a cyst and some CSF but neuro. told me not to worry, and then wanted to drug me up with 600 mg of Neurontin and then double it in 2 weeks. NO thanks! Id rather deal with the pain that comes and goes and now is on top of head on right side.

PostPosted: Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:57 am    Post subject: Head Pains Not Migraine Reply with quote

I started having server pains in my head to the left hand side around my eye and temple.

i went to A+E in kettering and was told i may suffer from craving headaches. i was given some imgram 50 tablets. they are designed to specifcally attack migraines and they stop the swelling of the blood cells in the brain which causes the pain.

i was given a box of six tablets. They cost the NHS 30 pounds a time. on prescription they cost just 6.50.

i took all six in one day and it didnt touch my the pains in my head. i felt like a bottle was about to explode inside my skull.

i went back to A+E and i was admitted into hospital. I felt so rough! i could barely walk i felt so ill. The pain was so sevear i had tears rolling down my cheeks! im 23 for christ sake!

I was told i was going to have a blood test taken and a cat scan and also a lumber puncture.

i had the blood test come back on the monday and all was clear.

i had the CT Scan on the tuesday morning. Wicked set of photos :0). My CT Scan came back clear.

on the tuesday evening i had my lumber puncture.

for all those who read this it isnt as bad as it sounds. The only discomfort is the anesthetic. They have to cover a large area around your spine so you dont feel the needle. Then they go in again slightly deeper.

Once done i didnt even feel the spine drip being inserted. it took them a few attempts to get it but i didnt feel it.
I got some strange sensations on my spine but was told this was normal..

once they drained the fluid they needed i had to lie still for 4 hours. i couldnt even go to the toilet! you have to lie stlll and let the fluid flow back to replace what has been taken..

i was also told that to expect bad headaches after the procedue. i thought what the hell i am already suffering them thats why i am here.

But since my drain i havent had the head pains as bad as i did have when i was first admitted.

I was told there was no fluid or blood on my brain i was also told they the tests done internally were all clear.

They have sent the other 2 tubes to oxford to be checked. I am still awaiting for the results a week later.

I have made an appointment to see my GP today @ 4.

i spoke to a friends mum how used to work @ the same hospital and explained my medication i was given

i am on co codamol 500mg to be taken twice every 4 hours if needed. Thats a 1000mg of pinkillers in one hit.

She said that should be enough to easily knock me out. The painkillers kick in for about an hour then i have to wait 3 hours before i can have my next lot.

the only other painkiller to have after the above is morphine thats how strong my painkillers are.

Whats happening inside my head isnt a migraine, it isnt a headache and isnt stress related. It isnt normal what i am experincing and i will not let doctors keep filling with me painkillers! There is a problem and they need to find it! Painkillers arent the answer!

i shall try and update you on my progress

Merry Christmas everyone

Deb,

Hi, Sorry to hear about your nephew. I know that you are very concerned. My son use to get really bad heachaches but his outcome wasn't so lucky. His was so bad that he would double over and just scream for help!!
He wasn't walking right, his eyes even started crossing and he keep getting worse and worse. I took him to 4 different Doctors and 2 different eye doctors and finally one doctor knew right away what his problem was. His name is Blake, he was 8 years old and in 2001 I lost him to a brain tumor. Like I said please don't be scared. First of all does he have any of these symptoms that I told you about?
I also get very bad headaches. Really sharp shooting pain. Feels like someone is stabbing you in your head and also in my stomach. I am also anemic and I have read on the internet that anemia can cause allot of problems. I never knew that you could even die from being anemia. Been this way all my life.
Does your nephew have pets in the house and do people smoke around him? It could be just the most simple things such as a plant in the house that he is alergic to. I hope he gets better soon.
I don't know what they give him for his pain but I do know that childrens motrin is bad. Motrin can even cause brain tumors.
I apologize if I have scared you but I am only trying to help you and I will be more than glad to talk to you about any futher info.
Take care of your sweet angle (nephew). Bye

I’m a 23-year-old female and I have been having the same problem quick stabbing pains in various arias in the front of my head. I was kind of worried it was a brain tumor or something but after reading all your posts I’m not so worried any more. I made an appointment with my doctor but I think I’m going to cancel it because I don’t have insurance and I cant afford to waste money on something that’s most likely not serious at all and I definitely cant afford an MRI because I’m guessing those things aren’t cheep. I can stand the headaches; its probably just stress and it will probably go away on its own. Right? Let me know what you think.
